PAGE 1

On the hill over-looking the river valley, a Mercenary and the Client wait and observe the horizon. There’s little daylight left and the sun is setting faster than most days. Everything is still, but there’s a thick bit of tension in the air. The Merc catches sight of raiders riding on horseback down on the valley floor. The Client, anxious from the waiting, spots them as well.

Panel 1

Large Panel. Half Page. Establishing shot. Overlooking the river valley. The Merc and the Client are looking through a pair of ol’tyme binoculars at their vantage point. You can see a small dust cloud in the distances, indicating which direction the raiders are coming from.

Panel 2

Wide Panel: Mid. Through the view of the binoculars you get a better shot of the raiders riding closer. It’s a shot through both lenses of the binoculars.
Merc: “Here dey come! We could hightail it now, if ya want?”

Panel 3

Wide Panel. Close. Head shots of both the Merc and the Client looking at each other. The Merc looks unsure of something. The Client looks anxious and worried.
Client: “No I….I have no choice. I have to make this trade. I gotta do this!”

Merc: “I don’ know nuddin’ ‘bout god, but I do know we need to pick up da pace. Sun’s settin’ and I like to git dis done ‘for dark, if is all da same to ya.”

Client: “Well I b’lieve God brought you to us. You found us fer a reason. Don’t you think you were meant to be here?”

Panel 4

Large Panel. Mid. The way the angle is set, there’s a lot of the valley in the B.G.  Client and Merc riding down the last part of the trail. They’re at the top of the panel just getting to the flat part of the trail. Next to the trail is a river bend. The hills shadow is moved
Merc: “How you say fo’sho i’s God? Money jus’ as powerful in dis world, maybe da money led me here.”

Large Panel. Mid. The Client is racing the horse back the way they came, leaving the merc alone.
Merc: “Hmmph…I s’pose I might’ve fallen for dis one…”
(Not in view) “Well lookie here, the town done managed to get someone who ain’t already killed over. We got ourselves a nice strong one.”

Panel 2

Large Panel. The group of bandits quickly begins to flank the Merc. They’re dressed with torn cloth and bones of various animals and even some human skulls. Some have wool and leather garb on signifying they may hold positions of authority within the group. The leader, not as impressive a sight as one would think from a leader of bandits, dresses in cow skull armor.

Leader: “Ya must be wonderin’ what in the world you’re doin’ out here. Well fortunately I ain’t gotta explain the situation cause ya see, ya b’long to me now. We give you a choice, easy or hard way. We want you to choose the hard way, its jus’ more fun, and you look like you could put up a fight.”

Panel 3 (inside panel 2)

Small Panel: Wide. The Merc has a raider on his right side and behind him.
Merc: “I see, you got some kinda deal wit da town, huh? Dey exchange passersby and travelers and in return you don’ bother dem, only sum’times dey don’ deliver. Dat it?

PAGE 6

Leader: “You hit the nail on da head. This here’s what they call a trade. Now if ya ain’t plannin’ no hare-brained scheme of escapin’ then I suggest we get this show on the road. We got lot a ground to cover and none of us ain’t gon’ wanna be out here when it gits dark now…“
Write a story that involves a trade.

Writing Prompt #7

Hey all,

So this is technically Comic Script #2. Here's another story with characters I came up with on the fly. These writing prompts are getting great.

This is a story about a trade. A Mercenary rolls into town and unexpectedly gets involved righting the towns wrongs. With a shady past and even shady future, can the Merc survive a town with seemingly good-natured, god-fearing people and the worst luck ever?

I'm thinking about doing this in illustrator once I get better at it. Hopefully Comic Script 1 will prepare me for the start of this.

Well everyone, as always feel free to let me know what you think. I'm always looking for feedback, general questions, comments and concerns.

Stay Frosty!
